Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a stand-alone that doesn't stand alone.

Jujutsu Kaisen is far and away one of the most popular series currently running in Shonen Jump. It's world of cursed spirits and techniques brings out a stunning action-packed story that's a perfect fit for the magazine. They recently released a movie & manga volume Jujutsu Kaisen 0 which serves as a prequel to the main story. Some series like Naruto/Bleach/One Piece similarly occasionally release side story movies but Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was a whole different story.

In my opinion, the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is a fun watch whether you've watched the main Jujutsu Kaisen series or not. It has all the loved elements of the main series like the simple but cool premise, flashy fights, and diverse cast. The story centers around a different main character for this movie/volume but the supporting cast are all mainstays from the original series.

Something I really liked was that they explain the premise of the series briefly. I've watched the main series but for someone that hasn't, it doesn't feel like they've been left to dry like in other Shonen Jump movies. And even having watched the main series there were moments that had me like "Oh RIGHT, they did mention that happening in the main series". Moments like that kept me looking forward to the rest of the movie. It didn't build on the main series at all but to me, I feel like it wasn't supposed to. It was a great stand-alone movie that didn't stand alone, I highly recommend watching it to anyone.
